BWH raised more than $140,000 in support of those in need through last month’s United Way campaign, making this year’s the most successful campaign to date.
“Thank you to everyone who participated,” said campaign Co-Chair Daria Christensen, executive administrator for the Department of Surgery. “Undoubtedly, our efforts will help thousands of youth and families when they need it most.”
This year, the United Way of Massachusetts Bay placed a renewed effort on helping families afford basic needs, such as food and oil, in addition to programs for sustainable employment, affordable housing and youth opportunities.
More than 700 generous BWHers contributed this year and the hospital donated $25,000. Donations continue to trickle in.
“We thank everyone who donated, and especially the campaign ambassadors who were instrumental to our success,” said campaign Co-Chair George Player, director of Engineering.
Ambassadors staffed tables outside the Cafeteria everyday at lunch time, in addition to several early morning coffee stations, to inform people about the United Way and how to donate. BWHers also were encouraged to donate through frequent, personalized e-mail reminders.
Those who participated were entered into raffles, and the grand prize winners were drawn during the ice cream social on Oct. 30. Claire Fitzgerald-O’Shea, Jessica Fay and William Bachman, MD, were the lucky recipients of Celtics tickets, Patriots tickets and a 20 inch LCD flat screen television, respectively.
